After Royal Enfield and BMW, KTM’s much anticipated 390 Adventure is finally here and it is brilliant. Let’s see what is wrong and why KTM 390 Adventure More Touring Less Off-Road riding!.
KTM Adventure comes in with a totally new frame and design, with great ergonomics and features. We go in-depth with each of them and take a look in!
Design- Upright KTM 390 Adventure look Fabulous! It is based on a split-trellis frame from Duke 390 but the subframe is totally new. The fit and finish is really sturdy and ready to handle any roads. KTM 390 Adventure is good for tall riders with the raised seat height and short riders might tiptoe it. The bike is all LED and headlight is coming from duke 390 with a nice DRL on the sides. The bike doesn’t get the main stand which is is a turn off in an adventure category. The wheelbase is increased by 73mm. Wheels are 5 lined-alloy tubeless which are 19 Inchers in front and 17 Incher rear also offers great grip on Tarmac. Meanwhile, it has engine bash plate and spiked footpegs which are good to hold the grip in off roads. Coolant has been repositioned and is now below the seat.
Hardware- KTM 390 Adventure comes with all the essentials we need. There is great suspension travel of 170mm front and 177mm rear which provides great comfort and absorbs everything which comes in the way. There is rear ABS which can be turned off, traction control is on offer with cornering ABS with 320mm disc at front and 230mm at the rear. The 5 inch TFT display is easy to read and comes with a night mode, It provides everything from clock to engine temperature. 6 Speed gearbox is great and slick-shifting. There is luggage mounting option at the back with great seat comfort. Side mirrors offer a decent view of what is behind but could have been better. The handlebar is height adjustable and also the visor. There is a dedicated GPS mount above the console which is additional by KTM.
Comfort- KTM 390 Adventure handles all the terrains pretty well. It has great comfort on and off-road because of the long suspension travel. Great handling provided by the triple clamp handlebar which is also adjustable and also gives no discomfort for long rides as well as on off-road. KTM 390 Adventure it’s lightweight gives it easy movement even when idle. The seat is comfortable and also provides great comfort for the pillion.
Engine- KTM 390 Adventure carries a 373cc engine which is great in mid-range and on the top end. It is a single cylinder 4 stroke engine that churns out 43 Bhp at 9,000 RPM and 37Nm torque at 7,000 RPM. It is long-range in first gear which is helpful in off roads but there is very less low-end grunt which gives an issue in climbing hill or anything in off-road. We have great mid-range and top-end offered by engine revving up to 11,000 which changes the character of the bike from Offroad to touring.
Performance- This bike is great in performance. KTM 390 Adventure offers great mid-range grunt and top-end as the duke 390 which makes sure there is some juice left. There is good acceleration with the 373cc engine making it a good touring machine on the highways. This has not only good cruising ability at 80kmph to 100kmph but also 0-100 is around 6.4 seconds with top speed is 150kmph. The 14.5 Ltr tank claims a mileage of 27.8 kmpl and also tank range of 400 Km.
Verdict- KTM 390 Adventure comes with great advantages in the touring category but also misses out on the low-end grunt, KTM 390 Adventure More Touring Less Off-Road riding. However, it comes on the pricey side of 2.99 Lakhs (Ex-showroom). Therefore, if okay with the amount there is a lot of things to take a look at this KTM 390 Adventure.
